I really hate when people say things like, "society is killing people" or "society is the reason people hate themselves". I think it's because people want to turn it into an us-against-them sort of situation. It does make it easier to get on with your life when nothing is actually your fault, when all you have to do is say, "society is ruining everything". But, in all honesty, that is really not the case.
I am finding quite difficult to express exactly what I mean. Society has done nothing wrong. I am not sure what society people are talking about (judging by the vagueness of the use of the word, I'm guessing just human society), but I don't ever recall society making the unified decision to make people feel horrible about themselves. It is not society that is bullying people. It is not society teasing fat people, or making fun of homosexuals, or any of it. It is multiple individuals within society. It is not a community of people, it is just a lot of separate people making bad decisions all on their own.
I am a part of society. You are a part of society. Almost every single person who has ever hated society is a part of society. Just because there are terrible people out there, does not give anyone the right to blame everything on the whole of society. This is not an us-against-them situation, this is a human-against-human, or maybe even self-against-self situation. Blaming society is the easy way out, but it's not a way out, it is just ignoring what's actually happening.

Words
I feel like we live in a time when words don't mean much. Or at least for me, words are getting less important. Saying "I love you" really doesn't mean anything when you say it to everyone. I say it to a lot of people, and I mean it every time, but I mean it in different ways. I say it to my friends when they do something amazing, I say it to my family when I feel like I haven't said it enough. I'm scared that one day when I say it, no one will care because they have heard it so many times before.
Also with curse words. I hear them and use them often enough that a good bit of them don't hold any special importance to me. They used to be things that were only said when one was feeling a strong emotion, but now they are just the words that are impolite to use in public.
Now, it takes so much more effort for words to have power. I guess it's not a terrible thing. We will just have to get more creative.
